Prince William and Princess Kate decided to attend the solemn service with their two eldest children – little Prince Louis remained at home, likely considered too young to attend the sad occasion.

George, then-nine, and Princess Charlotte, seven, were the youngest mourners following the Queen’s coffin as they processed past world leaders inside Westminster Abbey.

The Queen’s great-grandson, who became second in line to the throne after her death on 8 September, wore a dark blue suit and black tie as he walked alongside his father, Prince William. Alongside him walked his younger sister, in a black dress and wide-brimmed hat, and her mother, Princess Kate.

The siblings faced the daunting task of grieving in public and in front of the cameras together. One very touching moment demonstrated their bond as Charlotte looked for her brother immediately after their arrival.

Footage of Charlotte stepping out of a car at Westminster Abbey before the funeral service showed her quickly turning around to look for George. The clip, shared on TikTok, has been liked more that 153.8k times with fans flocking to the comments to show their support for the pair.

One person wrote: “Princess Charlotte will be a great help to Prince George”, while a second added: “She will support him exactly the way Princess Anne supported Charles. Loyalty runs in the family.”

A third noted: “Charlotte is going to be his confidante, while he wears the crown she will be his rock.” And a fourth said: “Charlotte will be similar to Princess Anne. Hard working, no nonsense, all round support to her brother.” Another person concluded: “Charlotte is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to see the woman she becomes.”

George and Charlotte’s close bond has been evident on a number of occasions. At the end of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier that same year, they appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with their parents, grandfather Charles and the monarch to thank the public.

The royals – along with the thousands of well wishers who’d gathered outside Buckingham Palace – sang the national anthem, God Save The Queen. At the end, a loud smoke cannon could be heard, prompting Prince George and Princess Charlotte to flinch. “That made you jump,” George was then seen saying to his little sister with a grin, to which she replied: “That made me jump!”
