The Prince of Wales has made a surprise appearance at a homeless charity to help serve Christmas dinner.

The Prince wore an apron to dish up a festive meal for guests at The Passage, one of his patronages.

He first visited the charity with his late mother at the age of 11. He has said the formative experience taught him the values of respect, dignity and kindness to the vulnerable he has carried with him ever since.

In 2019, he returned as a 36-year-old father of three to officially become its patron.

He has since regularly helped to serve lunch to people reliant on the charity, previously chopping carrots for a spaghetti bolognaise.

A video has now been posted on social media showing the Prince unexpectedly joining The Passage Christmas party.

He was seen talking and laughing with staff and volunteers, before sitting down for a conversation with experts in the homelessness sector.

He later pulled up a chair to join people helped by the charity, who each had a plate of traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. In one shot, he is seen putting an arm around a woman and posing for photographs with surprised guests.
