Princess Kate’s kind gesture to young cancer patients you may not know about

The emotional video that the Princess of Wales posted to her official Instagram account last Friday, revealing her shocking cancer diagnosis, has been viewed by nearly 100 million people.

The 42-year-old princess thanked the public for “all the wonderful messages of support” before requesting privacy for her and her family, which includes Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, so that she can concentrate on her recovery.

It is heartwarming to recall Catherine’s personal support for cancer patients over the years, as the world waits in hope for the Princess’ full recovery.According to reports in 2018, Prince William’s wife gave a few inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a nonprofit that gives real hair wigs to kids and teenagers who have lost their own hair due to cancer at no cost.

The Sunday Express claimed at the time that Catherine had had the thought while having her hair cut at Kensington Palace by Joey Wheeler, her stylist.

According to a Sunday Express source, Princess Catherine’s hair was then donated under a different name. “It was sent using someone else’s name, so that the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source – they just thought it was from a female donor in the Kensington area,”

The Little Princess Trust expressed their “great surprise” at receiving a donation from the royal after learning of the news.

A representative for the charity, Helen Creese, stated: “It’s a total surprise. Naturally, we’re all ecstatic that she gave her hair, and we also want to express our gratitude to her and to everyone else who chooses to support the charity in this way—as so many people do. We presume that she may have sent the donation without revealing her identity.”See also Kate Middleton says the sweetest thing about Prince William in rare comment about the future

She added, “It’s such a selfless act anyway to donate your hair to help a sick child or young adult,” and stated that the organization occasionally receives anonymous donations.

Why do people with cancer lose their hair?
While many cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy may experience hair thinning or loss as early as two to four weeks after their initial treatment, not all cancer patients experience hair loss.

Chemotherapy targets rapidly proliferating cancer cells with potent medications. However, these medications can also harm your body’s other rapidly proliferating cells, like the ones found in the roots of your hair.

Not just on your scalp, but throughout your entire body, chemotherapy may result in hair loss. Your eyebrow, armpit, pubic hair, and other body hair may occasionally fall out as well.

Hair loss from radiation therapy is limited to the radiation-treated area in cancer patients. The NHS states that hair cells typically begin to regrow as soon as chemotherapy or radiation treatment is completed.

Because of the numerous obstacles that cancer presents, wearing head scarves, hats, or wigs can make cancer patients feel more confident. For this reason, organizations such as Little Princess Trust are in existence.

A representative for the charity, Helen Creese, stated: “It’s a total surprise. Naturally, we’re all ecstatic that she gave her hair, and we also want to express our gratitude to her and to everyone else who chooses to support the charity in this way—as so many people do.
